Chiropractic Care
Many people think of Chiropractic Care as working on your bones and in fact we do adjust your bones but what we really hope to effect is your nervous system. The spine and your nervous system are so intertwined that when the spine is not moving correctly it will irritate the nerves which results in pain or some other symptom such as numbness or tingling or even ill health in one of your organs if that is where the irritated nerve goes.
Having a fully functional spine gives you the best chance possible for a fully functional nervous system which is the main factor in determining your level of health and well-being. This is why so many folks elect to continue getting an adjustment every month or so after their obvious symptoms are gone. Preventive maintenance for your body like changing the oil in your car.
An adjustment is what we call it when we put motion into your spine in a very specific way to increase the function of your spine which relieves your symptoms in most cases. There are different ways to adjust the spine and we use an instrument for several reasons.
Our Chiropractic Techniques
Dr. Durham uses one of the most popular “low force” chiropractic techniques in the world at Abbeville Family Healthcare.
First the Evaluation
We begin by analyzing how well your spine moves. We test how well you turn and bend. While you’re lying face down, we’ll evaluate the length of your legs. This simple procedure can reveal significant differences in leg lengths.
This time-tested protocol tells us if subluxations exist and their location. It also helps us know when to adjust and when not to adjust.
The Adjusting Instrument
We use a small hand-held adjusting instrument called the Impulse. This instrument offers many advantages for our patients. We think it is by far the best way to take care of you and get you feeling great fast!
This handheld instrument delivers a carefully measured and directed thrust that is many times faster than is possible by hand, so less force needed.
The Follow Up
After your adjustment, we retest to make sure changes have been produced. Testing afterwards helps us deliver high-quality care and high levels of patient satisfaction.
Rehabilitation Services
At Abbeville Family Healthcare, we believe that a strong spine is a healthy spine and that spinal weakness gives rise to injury and pain.
So we have added specific exercises that will stretch and strengthen the ligaments and muscles that support your spine giving you longer lasting relief.
Using exercise as part of your care plan greatly accelerates the healing process so you “get well, stay well, and live well”…faster!
Electric Muscle Stimulation
We use a form of electric muscle stimulation called Interferential Current. It causes muscles to contract and relax at a rate that breaks up muscle spasms and relieves pain.
